Description

Saint-Laurent Boulevard (aka La Main) is Montreal’s principal artery, dividing the city in its western and eastern halves.

Right before Christmas, we were asked to provide a decorative lighting design for the holidays. Instead of focusing on the holidays, we proposed a lighting solution that will liven up Saint-Laurent every night, until 2015.

The lighting design is at home on the existing street lights. It consists of 10 addressable LED strips arranged cylindrically, and sturdy enough to withstand the harsh Montreal winter.

Each lighting fixture is programmed to trigger specific effects according to a preprogrammed schedule. The schedule can be updated and pushed to our fixtures wirelessly, with each one being part of a large wireless mesh network, spanning 1.2km, from the Sherbrooke intersection all the way up to Mont-Royal.

Be on the lookout for future updates to the system that will bring even more possibilities and animations to the Saint-Laurent street lights.
