L’Astral, the concert hall of the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, is readily recognized by the glowing marquee overhanging Sainte-Catherine street just west of La Place des Arts.

Conceived and fabricated by ESKI, the LED display is updated by a web server the size of a lighter and is made of two ten-meter-long backlit strips, reminiscent of the black letters and white screens of the vintage marquees that have been, since the years of the Birdland and Village Vanguard on Broadway, the visual signature of the artistic scene.

ESKI, in collaboration with renowned lighting designer Gilles Arpin’s firm Éclairage Public, transformed the lighting of the marquee to reflect the neighborhood’s luminous identity.
